3 Stone Engagement Rings Guide

What Is A 3 Stone Engagement Ring?

As the name suggests, a three stone engagement ring is one in which there are three gems or stones on the ring itself. They can mean whatever you want them to mean of course, but is traditionally meant to represent the past, present and future of the couples love for one another. That makes them especially popular for engagements, but also for anniversaries.

Three Things To Consider

Types Of Stones - While most engagement rings use diamonds - and hence so do most 3 stones - you do have other gems available. Traditionally unless all three stones are diamonds it is not considered a true three stone ring, but it is much more important to get a ring that the wearer will enjoy rather than worry about tradition. Of course if you do go for different gems you must makes sure that you get them to match in colour and shape.

The Size Of The Stones - You can either choose for your three stone engagement ring to have three stones of the same size (most common) or a larger middle stone with two equal in size smaller stones outside of it. The stones must be large enough (i.e. have a large enough carat) to appear as three separate stones.

The Shape Of The Stones - Another important aspect of the ring is the shape of the three stones. In most cases you'll want to have three stones of the same shape (even if they are different sizes) but it is not uncommon to have different shapes.

Tips On Buying 2 Stone Engagement Rings

- Shop around! Three stone rings are usually far more expensive simply because there are three diamonds in the ring. Make sure you set a budget and never pay more than you can afford for a ring.

- Shop around some more! Even if you think you've found the perfect ring at the right price, it never hurts to spend some time looking in just a few more shops to see if something better is around.

- Three stones usually signify the couples future, so bear that in mind when buying the ring.

A three stone ring can be a wonderful engagement ring, and if you keep the above things in mind you can't go wrong!

Tips On Buying Engagement Rings

If you are a man looking to buy his prospective wife an engagement ring then beware - DO NOT get this wrong! While it would have to be a shallow woman to base an answer of a wedding proposal on the size or beauty of a ring, it has been known to happen and can definitely be a factor in the decision whether you like it or not.

Not only that but engagement rings cost a lot of money that you definitely don't want to waste on something your lover isn't going to like. It's well known that on average a man will spend and entire months salary on the engagement ring. When buying engagement rings, caution is they key.

Colour Of Engagement Rings

There is a scale of diamond coloured engagement rings. Basically what you are looking for is a diamond with a scale rating between D and Z. A fancy is a diamond with a strong or unusual colour, but these are rare and hence cost you more.

Remember supply and demand - the less of a certain type of diamond there is the more expensive it will be!

Carats or carrots?

Carat or carrots?

Carots (not the food kind) is basically a measure of the size of the diamond. This is then further divided into even smaller measurements called points but we don't really need to go into that.

What to look for in a jeweller

A good jeweller will understand that buying an engagement ring is a very important thing for a man to do and hence should be willing to talk you through all aspects of the ring 9 from carats, to calrity, to colour and cut. If the jeweller seems uninterested by your ring buying then move on elsewhere! There are plenty of options for buying a ring and you want to get it right first time.

So how do you choose what to get your prospective wife? When she's not looking have a look through her current jewellery. What does she like? What kind of style does she have a lot of? Try to pick a style of engagement ring that suits her current tastes without being too similar to anything she might have already.

Final Thoughts

Most of all you need to make sure you're getting a ring that she would like. No matter what the cost it, you want her to be proud of her engagement ring and fall in love with it like she's (hopefully) fallen in love with you.

Good luck!
